Archaic Defenses

John G. Young, M.D.

He wore his defenses

like a suit of mail,

but he couldn't keep up.

He was bound to fail.

"I wanted to run

but weighed myself down.

He confronted old enemies

standing in place,

but time passed him by,

left him out of the race.

"I kept tripping myself up.

Can you bring me around?

For how could you run

that hundred yard dash

wearing such armor

and not fall on your... face.

"Or will you like the others

laugh at me down?"
