Dog lift

John G. Young, M.D.

Dog's lift their legs

To hydrants and mailboxes ,

Their tails to boys and girls

Their heads to sounds--

Or sometimes just an ear.

Dogs lift the spirits

Of those who need them

And the ire of those

Who don't.

Dogs lift, like elevators,

Bringing you up and down

And sometimes they make you wait,

Or hold you up between floors.
