God has a love/hate
relation with me.
He has given me
a successful practice,
a sensitivity
to feelings
of grief and loss
and the experiences
to go with it.
He has given me
a wonderful wife
who loves me,
cares about me,
and shares her life
of pain and suffering.
He has given me
a lovely home
that overlooks the ocean,
has a swimming pool
and tennis courts,
and is wheelchair accessible.
He has given me
a bright, energetic daughter
who can pick up almost everything
the teacher says
on her auditory trainer.
He has given me
a cute little dog
that won't leave my side,
who poops on the rug
and wakes me at four a.m.
to go out to pee.
He has given me
skills of composing
and playing
my own music,
writing poetry,
and painting pictures,
but little time to do it.
God gives
and He takes.
