Group Therapy

John G. Young, M.D.

The group began

with their mouths open wide,

fledglings eager

for what I'd provide.

"We felt we had nothing

so we looked to you.

We felt we were nothing.

Did you feel that way too"

It was true I gave them a worm or two,

(I didn't want them to starve, would you?)

yet before I knew they grew and grew

in each other's warmth and openness too--

"The strengths of ourselves

had been lost from our view,

then you gave us ourselves

and that strangely was new."

Though I was never sure

of how or why it was true,

they soon learned to fly

[from the award-winning video, The Creative Adventure]

and to feed themselves too.
