Shadows
John G. Young, M.D.
Shadows point to the sun
as it traverses our lives,
while the masses applaud
Monet’s gay pastels—
light glancing on the surface
changing haystack or steeple
by the hour.
Noon is—what more can be said?
But in the late afternoons
shadows lengthen
to Renoir’s "queen of colors"—black.
Houses and trees come together
as day approaches night
obliterating separateness.
